At Castle Drywall in Winston-Salem, we’ve been removing popcorn ceilings for years. The popcorn ceiling is not a problem to be taken lightly. At least that is not something that we are going to recommend. Obviously, if you were there when the roof was made and you know that no asbestos was used in the process, then you shouldn’t worry. However, if your home was built in the late 70s, early 80s, and even a little earlier, you should probably be a little more vigilant. We will make sure that your home and the people who live in it are not at risk from asbestos exposure.
Remember, when choosing which ceiling texture to install, you need to make sure that it is a strong material. This is important so that it does not fall due to improper installation of the drywall. DIY projects aren’t necessarily the easiest things to do. They require a certain level of skill. Therefore, if you are in doubt, you may want to seek the help of a professional to complete this task for you.
It is not our intention to scare you into thinking you have asbestos into writing us a big check to clean your roof. Many people will argue that their home has been like this for years and that they really had no problem with asbestos. There are people who lived through the Chernobyl disaster, and that’s really cool, but not having to go through that would have been the ideal scenario. Of course, here we are comparing apples to oranges, but we hope you get the point!
If you have a textured roof that you don’t like, whether or not it has asbestos, we can help you remove it. What we are going to do is literally go through and smooth the area as best we can. If we find that the ceiling does not actually contain asbestos, we can use many of the original materials to smooth and repaint.
Over the years, we have been able to see many different people doing the same kind of work as us. Most of the times we get to see their work when it is not so good. Many people think that it is not that difficult to literally smooth a ceiling of popcorn or texture. However, that will not always be the case. With us, you are guaranteed a smooth finish that you can show off if that’s something you like to do with friends.
As we mentioned, if you have asbestos, the best thing to do is remove it. Once this is done, you will have several options on what you want to do. If you’d like, we could give you different examples of some of the projects we’ve worked on in the past to see if any of those finishes fit what you’re looking for.
